Letterpress and Book Arts Education

An important goal of Brian Allen and Officina Briani is to be an educational resource for the craft of letterpress printing and the book arts.

The
Introduction to Letterpress Printing class is a one weekend unit, repeated on multiple weekends.
Class size maximum: 6 people
We will cover the basics of hand-setting lead type, lockup, makeready, inking, and presswork. We will also cover the use of photopolymer plates, to show how to go from computer-derived designs to letterpress. Learn about getting plates made, adhering them to bases, lockup, makeready, presswork.

The
Intermediate Letterpress Printing class is a follow-on class, going into more detail and complexity, focussing on makeready and presswork, and on a single project.

Fun with wood type
is a day-long session exploring positive and negative spaces, color overlays, and emphasizing serendipity!

Paste Papers is a day-long playful exploration of technique, layering, and patterns, using acrylic paint mixed with wheat paste. You'll leave with a number of decorated sheets suitable for small book covers and endsheets, for framing, scrapbooking, and boundless possibility.
